our mission is to create community through coffee

My journey and fascination for coffee and coffee culture began early in my childhood years. Growing up, I watched my mother and her friends gather at home together, sometimes for hours, drinking coffee and tea. They would conversate about each other lives and sometimes relevant social topics. At that time, I didn't realize it, but they brought the "cafe" experience to their home. 

I remember I would sneak out of my room, watch my mom and friends eating cakes, and have fun conversations centered around coffee and tea. I would hear laughter, and even sometimes a sobering cry as the aromas of coffee and perfume filled the air. Being immigrant women, 'Kahve' time was when they were able to put on their best outfits, throw on their gold jewelry and visit each other's houses taking turns hosting Khave parties - all while manifesting their dreams in a cup filled with coffee. It was all so beautiful to experience. 

My favorite and best part was the coffee fortune reading. The time-honored tradition of tasseography, reading of coffee grains or tea leaves, lives within my Assyrian culture and many other cultures worldwide. I would listen as one woman would read all the other women's Kahve coffee grains. It was magical and foreign to me, and I wanted to learn more about it. 

I created TEE KOFFEE to celebrate the community coffee can create. I create blends that celebrate my heritage; each coffee blend has a story behind the label and a fortune in every cup.
